The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook - Book with Painted Cover
The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook - Book with Painted Cover
My own illustrated version of the book's cover, painted on an actual copy of the book itself!
Process and materials: I've wrapped a used hardcover copy of The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook by Deb Perelman in a new book-cover made from colored cardstock; then I've re-drawn the front cover and spine using watercolor paint and gel pen, and treated it with a light invisible matte varnish for protection from scuffing. The back cover is plain black cardstock.
Display and use: I like to envision this displayed on a bookshelf, but you could also frame it in a deep shadow box. Additionally, it is a real, readable copy of the book, so you could read it if you wanted, though that would likely result in a bit of wear-and-tear on the art (I don't mind if you don't). Also, do be aware that these materials are not entirely lightfast, and could fade if displayed in direct sunlight over long periods of time.
Every book in The Bookshop of Painted Books is one I’ve read and loved and would heartily recommend. If there’s a particular book you’re looking for but don’t see here, feel free to write me and enquire—there’s a semi-decent chance I’ve got it, I’ve painted over 350 books, and have only put a tiny fraction of the ones I have up on my shop.
